Emilia Puschmann is the CEO of Hive, Helsinki. At the head of the campus, she has a unique perspective on students.
What do you like the most about your position?
In my position, I get to help ensure our students keep on receiving effective top-quality education and they can work in the best possible environment with the tools they need to flourish. With my work, I can also highlight the value of Hive Helsinki and make sure our students keep being hired as skilled junior coders in leading companies also in the future. It’s a privilege to lead such a multitalented team as ours is!
What were you doing before joining Hive?
My background is in the recruitment, HR and consulting industries. I previously worked with technology companies, hiring top-talent to leadership positions as an executive search consultant. My favorite part of these past positions was finding the perfect match between client companies and new recruits. When I started at Hive, I got the chance to approach the same themes from a different angle, managing corporate relations and student’s employment to facilitate the best possible careers for our talented student body.
What are your thoughts on the future of education?
At Hive, we believe that the future of education is bright. We are excited to be at the forefront of this revolution, and to be helping our students prepare for a world that is rapidly changing. Learning to learn sets you up for life. We think learning to learn becomes even more important than it is now as both the technology and the world around us are changing with such speed. Learning to learn will enable students to be self-sufficient learners who can pursue their passions and goals with confidence
What is the value you cherish the most at 42?
To me it’s diversity. We think bringing together people from all walks of life is the secret ingredient behind all the greatest innovations. Nearly half of our students were born somewhere else than Finland and 62% didn’t have any prior coding experience. It’s pretty awesome to see people coming together to create new things and learn together as well as build strong and active communities. Only through combining different perspectives in an inclusive environment can we create solutions that truly have the potential to solve our global and local challenges.
