Discover 42 Kuala Lumpur, one of the first campuses in Southeast Asia part of the network of 42 campuses over the world.

42 Kuala Lumpur story debuted at the end of 2019. After a launch in the midst of the pandemic in summer 2020, the first Piscine was held in February 2021. 42 Kuala Lumpur became the first campus in Southeast Asia to host a Piscine then to introduce new students to the core program of 42. The team have since been in contact with other campuses around like 42 Bangkok and 42 Adelaide to give them feedback about their experience, placing Malaysia in the front of education.

“Malaysia is now combining its hardware capabilities legacy with software development — it’s going to put us in a very good position. I feel that hunger, that drive, both from the private and public sector. They want to actually be a hub for talent development Southeast Asia itself.”

Jeff Sandhu, Head of 42 Kuala Lumpur

With 150 computers, 42 Kuala Lumpur has plans to accommodate 450 students at any point of time. The first selection was impacted by the pandemic and 120 cadets were selected through 5 online Piscines. The first on-site Piscines held in 2022 should bring about 200 new students to 42 Kuala Lumpur. More than providing basic amenities, like the mandatory ping-pong table to catch a break after working on a computer, the campus also opens them to new perspectives. Surrounded by a farm, it is the perfect place to get to know the agritech sector.

“Even if our first students will only be available for industry placements next year, our partners are already anxiously waiting. They are quite excited about what 42 Kuala Lumpur can provide, especially from the startup community, who are struggling to find digital talents that can be independent.”

Jeff Sandhu, Head of 42 Kuala Lumpur

42 Kuala Lumpur main partner is Sunway Education Group : a non-profit, private education structure always looking to innovate and managing universities and schools since 1987. The campus itself is located in Sunway City: a higher education hub which also provides lots of entertainment and leisure activities and healthcare facilities, with an emphasis on sustainability for the future. As the saying goes with students, “We don’t have a campus — we have a whole city!”.

“42 Kuala Lumpur is the most unique location in the world: the campus used to be… a resort and long term stay for university professors! As we don’t require professors at 42, so it made sense to allow students to the space!”
