42 Gyeongsan, located near Daegu, in the Southern part of South Korea (GyeongSang Buk-Do), was established in 2023 as part of a strategic effort to turn South Korea into a major hub for AI technologies and innovations. Thanks to 42’s pedagogy, the campus aims to not only equip students with technical skills but also foster critical thinking, creativity, and leadership — essential qualities to navigate today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.

“The academy’s establishment comes at a pivotal moment, as South Korea embarks on an era of digital transformation driven by AI technologies and innovations.” Heonsoo Rhee, the head of 42 Gyeongsan, tells us. As the world’s economy becomes increasingly influenced by digital transformation, South Korea ambitions to position itself as a world leader in this transformation with 42 Gyeongsan playing a key role in this vision. To this end, the need for highly skilled professionals who can seamlessly integrate technology, creativity, and ethical considerations is paramount to ensuring the country’s continued success in the global market.

Strategically located near Daegu University, a well-respected institution surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, 42 Gyeongsan offers an inspiring environment for its students. The city of Gyeongsan provides a tranquil yet forward-thinking atmosphere that is perfect for nurturing the creative and technical talents required in today’s digital economy. The proximity to Daegu also enhances the learning experience, as students can benefit from the cultural and academic resources of the broader Daegu Metropolitan Area.

In just its first year, 42 Gyeongsan has seen significant growth, with 380 state-of-the-art computers available for students and more than 3,000 applicants vying for spots. “This high demand reflects the increasing recognition of the academy’s value as an educational leader in South Korea”, Heonsoo Rhee comments. As of now, around 600 students have completed Piscines, and more than 300 students are currently enrolled in the Common Core.

With these early successes, 42 Gyeongsan is also making good on another one of its founding principles: to promote balanced regional economic development throughout the country. “By focusing on the growth of global convergence talents, we aim to contribute to the revitalization of local economies while strengthening South Korea’s position as a global leader in ICT.” — Heonsoo Rhee adds. As industries worldwide continue to embrace artificial intelligence and digital technologies, the development of highly skilled talent in the heart of South Korea is an essential step towards achieving a balanced and sustainable economic future.

Through innovative education and a focus on digital convergence, the academy is preparing students to not only contribute to South Korea’s economic growth but also to play pivotal roles in shaping the future of global digital economies. These graduates will be equipped with the tools to drive innovation, foster collaboration across disciplines, and lead in sectors such as AI, IoT, and cybersecurity.
